A Corruption Risk Assessment is a preventive process that examines an institution’s policies, procedures, systems, and operations to identify weaknesses or vulnerabilities that could create opportunities for corruption. It is not an investigation of individuals or a determination that corruption has occurred; rather, it is intended to identify and address risks before they materialize.
The LACC is undertaking the assessment as part of its statutory prevention mandate. Part IV, Section 5(h) of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission Act of 2022 empowers the Commission to examine the practices and procedures of institutions and recommend measures that reduce opportunities for corruption.
Through the assessment, the LACC will review relevant institutional processes and controls, identify potential corruption vulnerabilities, and develop recommendations to strengthen identified gaps. Following the assessment, the findings will be compiled into a report and discussed with the institution for validation and implementation of appropriate corrective measures.
For the NLA, the exercise provides an opportunity to strengthen internal controls, improve accountability and operational efficiency, address institutional vulnerabilities, and build stronger safeguards against corruption. The assessment therefore represents a collaborative preventive effort between the LACC and the NLA to promote a stronger culture of integrity and accountable public administration.
