President Boakai Commissions PPCC Board Chairman

On April 2, 2026, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. commissioned Dr. Ivan Fayeah Camanor alongside several senior and junior government officials in a ceremony held at the Executive Mansion, marking a renewed push to strengthen governance and national leadership.
Speaking during the event, President Boakai emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability in public service, urging the newly commissioned officials to carry out their duties in strict adherence to the rule of law and with unwavering commitment to the Liberian people.

He underscored that effective governance depends on discipline, transparency, and respect for established legal frameworks.

Dr. Camanor, a veteran physician and public health expert, currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC). Appointed in 2024, he is tasked with providing strategic policy direction aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Liberia’s public procurement and concessions processes.

His academic and professional foundation reflects decades of service and leadership.

Dr. Camanor began his premedical studies at the University of Liberia before earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine in 1976. He later advanced his training as a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in the United States, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Camanor has held key positions in Liberia’s health sector. He began as County Public Health Officer for Lofa County and later rose to become Director of the Bureau of Preventive Services at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, where he contributed to shaping national disease prevention policies. His leadership trajectory continued with his appointment as Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Minister of Health, roles in which he oversaw public health policy development and nationwide program implementation.

Dr. Camanor also brought his expertise to the international stage, serving with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) from 1988 to 2008 across Lesotho, Angola, Eritrea, and Sudan. In these assignments, he supported public health systems, emergency preparedness, and response efforts in complex humanitarian environments.

Beyond government and international service, he has contributed to academic development in Liberia. From 2010 to 2016, he served as a lecturer in Community Health at Cuttington University’s School of Public Health, mentoring future health professionals and strengthening the country’s medical education pipeline.

Dr. Camanor has also held prominent leadership roles in regional and national professional bodies. He is a former Chairman of the National AIDS Commission of Liberia and served as Vice President of the West African College of Physicians. A Fellow of the College and a Foundation Fellow of the Liberian College of Physicians and Surgeons, he has played a significant role in advancing professional standards and medical governance in the region.

His commissioning comes at a time when Liberia continues to prioritize institutional reform and accountability. Dr. Camanor’s extensive experience in public health, governance, and international service positions him to contribute meaningfully to strengthening oversight and promoting ethical leadership within the PPCC.

As Liberia seeks to consolidate gains in governance and public sector reform, the appointment signals a continued emphasis on experienced leadership and a commitment to national development anchored in transparency and service.
