Public Works Minister Roland Layfette Giddings has been invited to participate in the prestigious Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program, scheduled to take place from September 14–17, 2025, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. The program, organized by Harvard University, brings together government leaders from across the globe to strengthen their leadership capacity and sharpen strategies for effective governance.
The invitation comes at a time when governments worldwide are under mounting pressure to deliver improved services, create economic opportunities, and respond to the demands of rapidly growing populations. Despite notable progress in the past two decades that improved millions of lives, many nations, especially in Africa, are grappling with citizens’ rising expectations. The resulting frustrations have fueled episodes of social unrest, electoral surprises, and, in some cases, political instability.
Minister Giddings’ participation in the forum reflects Liberia’s recognition of the importance of innovative and transformative leadership in navigating these challenges. As part of the Ministerial Forum, Giddings will join his counterparts in high-level dialogues, peer-learning sessions, and case studies aimed at developing practical solutions for strengthening public institutions and service delivery.
The Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program is widely regarded as a platform for shaping the next generation of reform-driven leaders. Minister Giddings is expected to use the opportunity to exchange experiences, build international partnerships, and explore approaches that could help Liberia enhance governance, expand economic opportunities, and meet the aspirations of its youthful population.
