The head of Liberia’s Public Procurement and Concessions Commission, Mr. Bodger Scott Johnson, says he would work collaboratively with international development partners and different stakeholders in the public procurement eco-system to ensure full adherence to the governing procurement laws of Liberia.

He vowed to enforce compliance monitoring and scrupulously review procurement and concession documents as part of efforts to ensure transparency, integrity and value for public money in public procurement.  The new PPCC boss also vowed to prioritise training and awareness engagements, aimed at strengthening the capacity of staff and increasing public procurement visibility across Liberia.       

Mr. Johnson made the assertions on Thursday, July 13, 2023 when he was inducted as Executive Director/Chief Executive officer of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC), for the period of four years.  The Economic Advisor to the President of Liberia, Hon Charles Bright, performed the induction ceremony and administered the oath to the PPCC new boss.  

On June 7, 2023, the Board of Commissioners of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC), appointed Mr. Bodger Scott Johnson following a competitive recruitment process that was witnessed by partner institutions. He will head the Secretariat and manage the day-to-day affairs of the Commission, and ensure implementation of the Public Procurement and Concessions Act of 2010, along with all accompanying regulations on public procurement.

The induction ceremony was graced by senior officials of the Liberian Government, including the Legal Advisor to the President of Liberia, Cllr. Archibald Bernard, Deputy Minister for Budget, Madam Tanneh Brumson. Other dignitaries at the occasion included representatives from United Nations, World Bank, and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Executive Director of Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, Moses Kowo, and a senior official from the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LEITI), also attended the ceremony.

The invited dignitaries were given the opportunity to make remarks at the occasion. In their separate statements, the dignitaries renewed calls for a transparent procurement process that would ensure value for money in public procurement. They also challenged the new leadership to ensure full compliance to the governing public procurement laws of Liberia irrespective of who is involved.
