Ministry of Justice and Samaritan’s Purse Dedicate Newly Constructed Perimeter Fence at Bopolu Central Prison, Gbarpolu County

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ), through its Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation, has received a significant boost with the completion and dedication of a perimeter fence at the Bopolu Central Prison in Gbarpolu County.
The project, valued at approximately USD 14,000, was funded by Samaritan's Purse International Relief as part of its Bridge of Hope Prison Project—an initiative aimed at supporting rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements across six correctional facilities nationwide.
The formal handover ceremony was held on September 18, 2025, in Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County. It was attended by key stakeholders including Assistant Minister for Corrections and Rehabilitation, Atty. Gabriel F. Ndupellar, and Cllr. Arthur M. Washington, County Attorney of Gbarpolu.
During the ceremony, the keys to the newly constructed fence were officially handed over by the construction firm, Pay-Go, to Samaritan's Purse, who then presented them to the Ministry of Justice.
In his remarks, Atty. Gabriel F. Ndupellar praised Samaritan's Purse for supporting two of the Bureau’s strategic priorities—security infrastructure and inmate rehabilitation. He also encouraged the local leadership of Gbarpolu County to take active steps to ensure the long-term sustainability of this intervention.
On behalf of the Minister of Justice, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, Assistant Minister Ndupellar expressed appreciation to the Gbarpolu local administration for their recent donation of a motorbike to the prison, aimed at strengthening security operations. He also appealed to the local authorities to facilitate the issuance of a land title for a property that was allocated to the Ministry over a decade ago for the construction of a modern prison facility in the county.
In addition to the perimeter fence, a new pig pen—with the capacity to accommodate up to 200 pigs and piglets—was also dedicated. This facility is expected to support ongoing inmate rehabilitation efforts through agricultural activities.
Bopolu Central Prison is one of the sixteen correctional facilities across Liberia operated by the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Justice.
