[Monrovia, Liberia, September 29, 2025 — The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has welcomed a high-level delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), as part of a week-long mission to conduct Liberia’s Constraints to Growth Analysis. The exercise is central to determining the country’s eligibility for a potential second MCC Compact.
Welcoming the team online from the US, Agriculture Minister, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, emphasized the significance of the visit and Liberia’s partnership with MCC:
“The MCC is a critical partner in the development of our country. Now that we have the opportunity to pursue a second Compact, we are pleased to host you in Liberia. One of our key challenges is food security, with 38% of Liberians affected.”
Dr. Nuetah stressed the need for agriculture to remain at the heart of Liberia’s growth agenda:
“We must enhance agriculture through infrastructure, research, and productivity. The private sector remains a critical partner, as they are the engine of growth and job creation. If we can develop the infrastructure and put in place electricity and a better road network, the private sector will be enhanced.”
The MCC team, led by Mr. Arif Mamun, Deputy Vice President for Policy and Evaluation, expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and underscored the purpose of their visit:
“It’s great to be here. We are here to listen and learn more. The needs and opportunities for investment are great, but the challenge is to prioritize among them areas that could be impactful for Liberia.”
Alongside the Ministry, the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) and the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAFAA) also participated in the discussions.
The insights gathered from these engagements will inform the design of any potential second Compact, giving Liberia a unique opportunity to access resources that can unlock growth, create jobs, and strengthen resilience in key sectors, particularly agriculture.
