Liberia Marks 20th Anniversary of Public Procurement and Concessions Commission
The Government of Liberia, through the Office of the President, has lauded the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) for two decades of championing transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
The commendation was delivered by Acting Minister of State, Hon. Samuel A. Stevquoah, on Thursday, September 25, at the PPCC headquarters on Capitol Hill, during a program marking the Commission’s 20th Anniversary.
Speaking on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., Minister Stevquoah described the PPCC as a “pillar of integrity” in Liberia’s governance system. He praised the institution’s role in regulating public procurement, safeguarding concessions, and introducing reforms that have enhanced accountability across government.
“When the PPCC was established twenty years ago, it responded to a critical national imperative: to safeguard public resources, regulate procurement fairly, and ensure that concessions genuinely benefit the Liberian people,” Minister Stevquoah said. He highlighted the Commission’s recent launch of the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system as a milestone in strengthening oversight and reducing corruption risks.
Minister Stevquoah urged the Commission to view its anniversary not only as a celebration of past gains but as a renewed call to action. “Our greatest legacy will be what we do from this point forward. Let this anniversary inspire us to build stronger institutions, safeguard resources with vigilance, and create a Liberia where transparency is not the exception, but the standard,” he said.
The celebration brought together key national and international partners, including United States Chargé d’Affaires to Liberia, Joseph Zadrozny; Swedish Ambassador to Liberia; representatives from the United Nations Development Program; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon. Each applauded the PPCC’s achievements, especially the establishment and rollout of the e-GP system to six government entities.
As part of the ceremony, the PPCC presented tokens of appreciation to its partners for their support over the years. The program climaxed on Friday, September 26, with a dinner night where twenty-two staff members, including the Executive Director, Director of Administration, and Director of Communication were honored for their dedicated service to the Commission Liberia.
The PPCC was established in 2005 to regulate, monitor, and evaluate all public procurement and concessions processes in Liberia. Over the years, it has played a critical role in shaping governance reforms and embedding transparency into national development initiatives.
